Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics
Over 16 years ago, I heard Dr. Bruce Perry speak at a conference. He changed my life that day.
Dr. Perry is the Founder of The ChildTrauma Academy www.childtrauma.org
He created the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT) as a way to understand the impact of childhood trauma on brain development.
In 2006, I was one of 12 people world-wide who were accepted as individual clinicians to be trained and certified in this model. Since then, hundreds of clinicians have been certified.
This model makes sense because it meets the child's needs at a developmental level. We cannot skip developmental stages. There is an assessment process that occurs where we look holistically at a child's development (physically, emotionally, socially, and relationally). We then identify interventions/strategies/treatments that are developmentally in sequence to help heal and grow the necessary parts of the brain.
This model is the FOUNDATION of all of my clinical work. I am officially wired to see children and adults through this lens.
